Discovery + Scenic

Begin your Flight Training with a Discovery Flight at General Lee Aviation.

A Discovery Flight is designed to allow those who are interested to experience the controls of a small aircraft. Every pilot whether recreational, private, or commercial began their journeys with a Discovery Flight. These flights are around 30 minutes in the air and 30 min on the ground prior and post flight, during which you will be accompanied by one of our instructors while going through basic flight maneuvers.Your Discovery Flight is your first official lesson and Step #1 toward either a Recreational Pilot Permit or Private Pilot Licence.

During your Discovery Flight, you will:

• Meet our instructors, staff, tour the facility and look over the aircraft.
• Take part in all phases of a real flight lesson, not just an airplane ride

Discovery Flight includes: Pre-Flight Briefing where your flight instructor will explain:

• What to expect during the flight
• The planned route
• Weather conditions
• Safety procedures
• Key information about the aircraft systems

You and your instructor will then complete a pre-flight inspection (aka a “Walk Around”) of the aircraft, checking the exterior, interior and fluid levels.

Flight – This is where the fun begins, you will sit in the pilot’s seat (left seat of an airplane):

• Learn and perform checklists
• Start the aircraft
• Taxi to the run-up area after a short demonstration once all checks are complete, you’ll taxi to the runway and-ready, set, takeoff!

In the air, you will fly as much as possible, getting a feel for the airplane while practicing:

• Basic turns
• Climbs/descents
• Airspeed/power controls

Many people are surprised by how smooth and graceful the aircraft feels in flight. Your instructor will then guide the landing with you.

Post-Flight Briefing – After returning to parking, your instructor will review:

• What you experienced
• What went well, what to improve on
• What to expect and prepare for on your next lesson

Duration: Approx. 30 minutes of flight time, 30 minutes preflight lesson, 30 min postflight for any questions that you may have and to sign up for ground school/further flight lessons. Approx. 1 hour 30 min total experience

FAQ: Can I Bring My Family or Friends? If you would like to bring a family member or friend, you’re welcome to bring them along. Please note that in this case, the flight cannot be logged towards your licence and the combined passenger weights must not be more than 400 lbs.

Can we fly longer? Yes, the extra time would be considered sight seeing and would be billed at our standard hourly rates.

Sessions are about 1 hour and 30 min in length. The cost for a discovery flight is $210 + GST

Scenic Flights are a one of a kind experience for all occasions. The perfect gift for those hard to buy for, a great date night experience, or ‘just because’.

Scenic tours are completely customizable based on the sights you want to see and budget. Don’t know where to go? We have put together a variety of tours that will take you over landmarks in the area such as Sylvan & Gull Lake, Dry Island Buffalo Jump, Drumheller, Buffalo Lake, Pigeon Lake, Buck Lake, Crimson or Cow Lake, Rocky Mountain House, Gleniffer Lake and many more. Flight times vary from a 15 min local Lacombe flight experience to an hour or more.

Pricing is 15 min – $100, 30 min for $160, 45 min for $240 and 60 min for $320 + GST. Flights can accommodate passenger combined weights up to 400 lbs.
